A Splash of Magic:
Nevada City Ballet Academy Presents "The Little Mermaid"
Get ready to dive deep into an enchanting underwater world this summer. On Wednesday, June 24, Nevada City Ballet Academy will bring a fresh, aquatic twist to the stage with their production of The Little Mermaid.

Director Krista Pagan has choreographed and taught an entirely original show for her dedicated company of over 60 students. This diverse cast, ranging in age from 3 to 22, has been working tirelessly to bring this beloved tale to life through the grace and athleticism of ballet.

A Tale of Two Worlds
In this reimagined classic, Ariel lives beneath the waves with her best friend Flounder and her sisters. While her mother, the Sea Queen, rules the depths, Ariel’s heart belongs to the shore.
Breaking from tradition, this Ariel doesn't just want to walk, she wants to be a Ballerina. She frequently sneaks to the surface to watch dancers practice, collecting treasures with the help of the eccentric seagull, Scuttle.

Life Under the Sea
The tension rises when Sebastian the Crab, the Queen’s loyal assistant, discovers Ariel’s secret excursions. To keep her safe, the Queen and Sebastian attempt to convince Ariel that life is better where it's wetter. The audience will be treated to a vibrant parade of marine life, featuring Shimmering Mermaids & Starfish, Rhythmic Crabs & Stingrays, Ethereal Jellyfish, Angelfish, and Orchid fish.

The Ultimate Sacrifice
Desperate to follow her heart, Ariel encounters the shadows of the deep. Ursula the Octopus and her sneaky Eels offer Ariel the chance to go on land in exchange for the special necklace given to her by her mother. Ariel makes the deal, unaware that Ursula’s true intent is to imprison the Sea Queen and seize control of the ocean.
Once on shore, Ariel’s dreams seemingly come true. The stage transforms as she interacts with Graceful Ballerinas & Schoolgirls, Lively Townspeople, Scuttle’s feathered family of Seagulls and more!
However, the joy of the surface world is short-lived. When Ariel discovers the dark reality of Ursula’s plan and the danger facing her mother, she faces a heartbreaking choice: Will she hold onto her dream of dancing on land, or will she give it all up to save her family and the kingdom?
